Coalfields news…Early Chatter Matters!

As part of the ‘Hello – Year of Communication’ the Play and Family Learning Team and Qualified Support Teachers planned a fruit tasting activity called ‘Talk About Taste and Texture.’ The activity took place in some of the Coalfields Play and Family Learning activity sessions.
Fruit such as strawberries, blueberries, melon, bananas and satsumas were prepared and provided for children to feel, touch and taste.

Children Get Their ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ Around World Record Attempt
Children in Sunderland took part in a UK-wide sing-a-long in an attempt to break a world record for a simultaneous rendition of a favourite nursery rhyme.
Hundreds of children under-five gathered at Children’s Centres across the city to sing ‘Head, Shoulders Knees and Toes’ for five minutes earlier this week. The centres that got involved were Washington (Wessington), Dubmire, Monument, Bunny Hill, Southwick (Austin House), Rainbow Family Centre, Thorney Close and New Silksworth.

Libraries across Sunderland show their support for the ‘Hello Year of Communication’
Throughout the month of May libraries across the city will be encouraging families to find out more about the national theme for the month "Good communications begin at home." All libraries will be holding special rhyme and story times for children and their parents and carers to pop along and join in.
